Furthering The Interest Of All Aspects Of Amateur Radio

South Lancs Amateur Radio Club Field Day at Haigh Hall – Saturday 4th July 2026

On Saturday at Haigh Country Park was attended by club members throughout the day. Dave and Rina’s son-in-law and grandson very kindly provided antenna rigging services to get the 2m/70cm antenna installed and subsequently dismantled it all at the end of the day. Members who attended were Dave, Steve Christie, Paul Miller, Albert, Nigel and chairman John. We had Paul, 2E0SQK, from our neighboring club, LADAR visit us too. Paul is a very keen POTA operator and he operated on 2m using our club callsign, G4SLR to gain enough POTA contacts to qualify as an activation. HF wasn’t kind for us with only 20m having any traffic present probably due to poor propagation. The club’s DX Commander looked impressive but as Dave pointed out, it requires extra guying points to keep it more stable in gusts of wind and also some extra plastic clips to prevent the sections from telescoping down in use was something else we noted.

During a discussion about POTA, we came up with the idea to call ourselves the “POTAgeists” and thought it might be an idea to collaborate with Paul, 2E0SQK and other friends at LADAR to get more joint POTA days arranged in the future. What do others think? A great collaboration between 2 local amateur radio clubs.

The ARDF (amateur radio direction finding) proved popular with several family groups giving it a try during the afternoon, following Steve’s recruitment drive. We have an ARDF come and try it day arranged at Haigh County Park on Saturday 25th July, look forward to seeing you there.
