Two of our members, John (G0JJL) and Nigel (2E0NRS), assisted Bill (G4YWD) from Wirral Amateur Radio Society (WARS) in facilitating the third RSGB Region 3 Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) event. Many thanks goes out to Bill who helped to organize the event with the Park wardens.

The event was open to competitors who are competing across the national events and those who just wanted to “have a go.” The competitors were showing off their skills and setting good times, with some completing the course in well under an hour. The winner was John Martin (G8JGM) with a time of 52 minutes!

The non-competitors who were “having a go” included the general public (and Molly who won the 10 year old category!) and other amateur operations. Geoff (2E0UWM) and Richard (M7FNR), from WARS were completely new to this event. They formed a team together, WARS Warriors, and with a little coaching from Nigel, managed to find all five transmitters within the allotted time period. Even though Richard did have a space helmet!

The final results can be found on the RSGB ARDF website: http://www.nationalradiocentre.co.uk/ardf/events.html
The next Region 3 event, which will be organised and run by SLARC, will be held on Sunday 7th September at Beacon Country park. What not come and have a go ?
